Which wild place should receive Echidna for life?

Twelve selected nonprofit organizations will receive lifetime use of Echidna, including setup and support, with a value of up to $15,000 per organization per year. We are looking for projects working in the wild: protecting habitat, and the animals and ecosystems living in it. Rewilding and species recovery, reserves and marine protected areas, ranger patrols and field monitoring, and ecosystem restoration.

You may know a rescue team, reserve or field project that would benefit from better records. Tell us about their work and where software could make their day easier.

Nominations are open now. Public voting runs November 10–17, 2026. Voting opens at midnight on November 10 and closes at 11:59 p.m. on November 17, Central time.

Echidna is made in the USA. Through Wild Spaces, we want to share useful tools with the people caring for wildlife and habitats around the world. This support is separate from our AI footprint. Our approach to responsible AI and conservation.

Where the software can help

Echidna keeps records about animals, places and the people working them. It helps most where a project tracks individuals, releases, patrols, enclosures or field sites over time. If a project mainly works on land purchase or advocacy, tell us what records the team needs to keep so we can assess whether these tools would be useful.

Practical conservation, built around the place and its people.

Wild Spaces takes a nonpartisan approach. We support useful work for wildlife and habitats, and assess projects by their needs, animal-welfare practices, local knowledge and evidence of results. Political affiliation is not a selection criterion.

Different places need different approaches. We value cooperation among conservation teams, zoos, veterinarians, landowners, farmers and local communities. We ask what works in that setting, what the tradeoffs are, and how the people responsible will review the results.

We confirm eligibility, practical fit and the organization’s consent before awarding a place. A nomination or vote does not start a subscription.

Feedback helps us improve. Reviews and photographs are optional, and public stories or listings need the project’s permission. Donated software and any conservation outcomes are reported separately from our estimated AI footprint.
